The Centre for Research on the Child and Family was founded in 1996 and is based in the School of Social Work and Psychology at the University of East Anglia. It is at the forefront of research on vulnerable children, parenting and family change. The Centre’s research spans a wide range of topics including fostering and adoption, substance misuse, child maltreatment, grandparents, and supporting fathers in family life.  The Centre produces high-quality and timely research evidence that informs the complex policy and practice decisions that have to be made on a daily basis regarding the welfare of children and their families. The aim of the Centre for Research on the Child and Family is to provide clear research evidence that can be used to improve the well-being of children and their families in their diverse communities.

The School of Social Work and Psychology is a leading academic department dedicated to teaching in social work, social policy and psychology. Our teaching draws on our research to produce first class professionals, many of whom go on to work with vulnerable children and families.
