Campus Tours FAQs
Here are the answers to frequently asked questions to help with your arrangements to attend a Campus Tour.
How can I look around a specific Academic department?
Tours of Academic departments are not available as part of the UEA Campus Tours, but if you would like to talk to a member of the admissions team, they will be able to provide advice about the Degree Programmes available and the application process at UEA. Please contact campustours@uea.ac.uk if you have any specific requests to see if they can be accommodated.
What parking arrangements are available for those travelling to the University by car?
Parking is at a premium on the UEA Campus, especially during term time, so it can be difficult finding parking spaces on site and the surrounding area is subject to congestion at peak travel times.
We therefore strongly recommend that you travel to the University by means other than car or use appropriate Park & Ride services into the City centre, where connecting buses to UEA can be caught. First Bus services; 25, 25A and X25 all run to the University.
Visitors can park in the Main Car Park (P1) and charges are collected via a pay-on-foot system at the end of your visit. Please take a ticket at the barrier on entry and pay to validate your ticket at the machines located at the car park entrance adjacent to the zebra crossing before returning to the vehicle. You must pay for your parking before attempting to leave the car park. Payment cannot be accepted at the barriers.
Additional spaces may be available in the Central Car Park (P5) which is Pay & Display.
Between the hours of 6.00am and 2.00pm parking is charged at £1.00 per hour or part hour. After 2.00pm, during the evening and at weekends, there is a flat fee of £1.00. You will need to have change available.
I am travelling to UEA by train. How do I get to UEA from the railway station?
You can reach UEA from the station by taxi, which takes approximately 15 minutes. There are also regular buses direct to the University from the station forecourt (Service No. 25, 25A and X25). UEA Students Union recommends ABC Cars on 01603 666333 (approximately £5-£7)
What should I wear?
We would recommend wearing comfortable footwear as the campus tour involves a lot of walking. Suitable clothing when raining is also advisable as most of the tour is outside.
What will I see on my campus tour?
The tour of campus will take in the majority of the central campus including the following areas:
Students Union Building
Sportspark
Lecture Theatres
Library
Careers Centre & Dean of Students Office
‘The Street'
Drama Studio
Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts
Please note that unfortunately there will not be time to take visitors to the Edith Cavell Building which is home to the School of Nursing & Midwifery, located at the edge of our site adjacent to the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital
Does the campus tour include a look around the sports facilities?
Yes, you will have the opportunity to look around the £17.5 million Sportspark on campus, which is one of the finest sports complexes in Britain, boasting international standard facilities including; a 50m Olympic swimming pool, indoor arena, athletics track, squash courts, astroturf pitches, fitness centre and dance studios, indoor climbing wall, tennis and netball courts as well as 40 acres of playing fields. There are a variety of opportunities to learn new sports as well as join classes for all levels in many activities including tennis, trampolining, fencing, pilates, circuit training as well as the wealth of sports societies that the Student Union coordinates.
Are there toilet facilities available on campus?

Can I look around the city afterwards and how do I get there?
Norwich is a beautiful city with a lot to offer visitors. Recently ranked as one of the most "liveable cities" in the world Norwich has been a thriving trading city for the last 900 years and for much of that time was England's second city after London. There are places such as the Cathedral, the Castle, the Royal Arcade, and the Forum to visit as well as the 42-acre Riverside leisure and retail area, the £275m Chapelfield shopping centre and the network of cobbled streets known as ‘Norwich Lanes' to discover. The city is consistently rated as one of the top ten shopping venues in the UK and is surrounded by beautiful countryside and within easy reach of the sea.
A wide variety of visitors come to the Norfolk every year to enjoy boating on the Broads, the protected nature and wildlife habitats as well as differing traditions of seaside towns.
Access to the city centre couldn't be easier with regular buses running from University Drive (just outside the Main car park – P1). Bus Services 25, 25A and X25 run regularly to Castle Meadow and St Stephens Street in the City Centre from UEA, taking only 10 minutes or so.
What happens if it is raining/snowing?
Although we are one of the hottest and driest parts of the country, British weather can still be unpredictable! We aim to still run the campus tour during mildly bad weather and would recommend bringing an umbrella as the vast majority of the tour will be outside.
What else can we see on campus – can we have a look around afterwards?
UEA is an open campus and you are more than welcome to take time to look around for yourself after the tour. If it's sunny you can hang out in The Square, the centre of student activity on site or you can take a walk around the lake. Alternatively you can head across to the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and take a look at modern and world art in our permanent collection.
Can we bring children?
Yes, but they must be accompanied by an appropriate adult who carries full responsibility for the child during the Campus Tour.
