What will my postal address be at UEA?
Official arrivals and Orientation dates are generally the latter part of the week preceding the first Monday of classes. Dates will be included with your acceptance letter.
Please see the Dean of Students' Office Arrival and Orientation page for further information on the dates and activities for Arrivals Week.
A SITS number is your student registration number. This SITS number (also called 'Student ID/UEA Application Number) is necessary to apply for campus accommodation and will also be on your campus card.
I have applied for Film and Television Studies (FTV) or Literature, Drama and Creative Writing (LDC) but I am registered in American Studies (AMS). Is this correct and what should I do?
For administrative purposes, all Study Abroad students who apply to any of the Schools of Film and Television Studies, Literature, Drama and Creative Writing or American Studies will be registered in the School of American Studies. If you have received your acceptance letter from UEA and it states that you have been accepted into the School of American Studies please do not worry as you will still be registered for the correct modules.
How do I apply for accommodation?
You should apply for accommodation as soon as you receive your SITS number in the admission letter. The accommodation application can be found on the accommodation pages.
Complete the 'Standard Undergraduate Accommodation Application Form'. After creating your account, using your SITS (Student ID/UEA Application) number, you may progress to the application.
All Study Abroad students attending UEA for a period of less than six months (i.e. one semester only) must obtain private medical insurance.
Study Abroad students attending UEA for a full academic year, and who will be studying in the UK for longer than six months, are entitled to free medical care as part of the National Health Service.
Which classes are available to take and where can I find detailed information to show my advisor?
All modules open to Study Abroad students can be found in the course catalogues together with descriptions of each module and the method of assessment -- coursework, exam or a combination of the two.
What is a full workload at UEA?
The normal academic load for students at UEA is 60 credits (UCU) for one semester or 120 credits (UCU) for the full academic year. Each module at UEA is worth a credit amount from 10-40 credits, so the actual number of classes in which a student is enrolled varies. Most modules are worth 20 credits and therefore, most Study Abroad students will normally take 3 classes per semester. It is not possible to enrol in more than 60 credits in a single semester.
How does my transcript get to my home university?
You will not need to request a transcript. A transcript will automatically be sent to your home institution and another to your home address.
Which accommodation should I choose on the accommodation application if I am on an exchange?
As an Exchange student, you should select the accommodation that best suits your budget.
However if you are an Exchange student from one of the following colleges or universities (Roanoke College, Middlebury College. Occidental College, Reed College, Temple University or University of Redlands), the agreement between your home university or college includes your accommodation, although you must choose from Mary Chapman Court, Norfolk Terrace, Suffolk Terrace or the University Village. (If you choose one of the more expensive residences, you will be billed personally for the price difference.)
This will depend on the type of agreement UEA has with your home institution or study abroad provider.
Exchange students do not pay tuition at UEA. With the exception of Roanoke College, Middlebury College, Occidental College, Reed College, Temple University and University of Redlands all Exchange students will be billed personally for their accommodation here at UEA once you have arrived.
Visiting students are personally responsible for both tuition and accommodation here at UEA. If you are unsure about the billing arrangements, you should consult your Study Abroad Advisor at you home institution.
How can I pay?
There is information on the Finance Office pages about UEA's electronic billing system through 'E-vision'.
What will my postal address be at UEA?
Mail cannot be delivered to campus residences so it is usually best to have letters and parcels delivered to your School address, for example:
Jane Smith
Visiting Student
School of American Studies
University of East Anglia
Norwich Research Park
Norwich
NR4 7TJ
UK
Mail addressed to residences will be delivered to the UEA Post Room in the Arts Building and can be collected from there.
