Postgraduate Research Degrees

New Postgraduate Research students joining in April 2013 should follow the guidance below:

1. Complete online registration

You will receive an email from the University after your place on a research programme is confirmed which will provide you with details of how to access your University IT account - these will start to be sent out to joining students about a month before the research programmes begin. Setting up your IT login and password will allow you to access and complete the online registration process and apply for your campus card. You should complete these tasks before arriving at the University.

2. Attend your registration/induction event

The Postgraduate Research Office (PGRO) has organised a registration/induction event which you must attend. Attendance at the event will complete your part of the registration process as a student of the University and ensure that you receive full access to University resources. The dates of the April event are as follows:

Faculty of Arts and Humanities: Monday 08 April 2013
Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences: Monday 08 April 2013
Faculty of Science: Monday 08 April 2013
Faculty of Social Sciences: Monday 08 April 2013

The induction programme for all new PGR students takes place on campus in the ZICER* Building, Room 2.03. There is a full day of activities which commence at 0915 - the programme (which may be subject to minor changes) is here.

*Zuckerman Institute for Connective Environmental Research - building 4/grid reference K22 on the campus map.

3. Read through and follow  your registration/induction programme

After you have completed online registration you will be enrolled on a virtual learning environment called Blackboard. Go to The Portal > Academic > My Modules. The ‘Postgraduate Research: Information for New Students’ Blackboard site will provide more information about PGR programmes at UEA, including University policies and regulations.

4. Look though the information for new postgraduate research students

When you join the University you will receive specific faculty information for postgraduate research students. You will also have online access to the regulations, policies and procedures governing research programmes.

5. You may have to register with the University Medical Service

If you are a full-time student here for six months or more you are required to register with one of the doctors in the University Medical Service (UMS) or with a local General Medical Practitioner (GP). To find out how to register, visit the UMS website at UEA Medical Services. You are advised to complete the registration forms before arrival at UEA and bring the forms with you to register with the University Medical Service. Please do not post them to the University.

6. Need Help?

If you have any questions about any aspects of the above, or your research programme, please contact a member of the PGRO team - you will find contact email addresses and telephone numbers here:
