Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught Information

New undergraduate or postgraduate students joining a taught course in January / February 2013 should follow the guidance below:

1. Complete online registration

You will receive an email after your place is confirmed on your course which will provide you with details on how to set your password and access your University IT account. E-mails will be sent out to joining students 25 days before the start of the course.  Setting up your IT password will allow you to access and complete online registration and apply for your campus card. You should complete these tasks before arriving on campus.

2. Attend the Registration Event

The Learning and Teaching Service has organised your School’s registration event, which you must attend. Attendance at the registration event will complete your registration as a student of the University and give you full access to University resources.

See when your registration event is.

3. Read through and follow  your Induction Programme

After you have completed online registration you will be automatically enrolled on a virtual learning environment based Blackboard site. The Information for New Students Blackboard site will provide specific information about your registration event and any official documents you need to bring with you, your induction programme, and guidance on how to enrol if there are any option modules in the first year of your course. You can also expect to see your school or course handbook.

4. Complete Module Enrolment – if there are option modules on your course

Some courses have module choices for a student to choose and enrol on. However, not all courses have module choices in the first year. If you are required to enrol on any modules you will be provided with guidance on how to complete the task on your Information for New Students Blackboard site.

5. Look at Your Timetable for information about teaching sessions

Some Schools begin lectures in the first week of the semester, but with induction events included in the first week’s timetable. Others only have induction in Week 1 and teaching starts in Week 2. Please check with your School’s Information for New Students Blackboard site for specific details.

Your academic timetable will be available to you when you have completed online registration and can be accessed on e:Vision, the University’s student information system, via the Student Portal. You will only be able to see the timetable for the modules you are enrolled on. If you have module choices to make you will see the timetable for these module after your enrolment choices have been processed by LTS staff.

6. Look though the Student Handbooks

When you join the University you will be provided with a course or school handbook. You will also have access to the Learning and Teaching Service Handbook for Students on Taught Programmes, which contains the regulations, policy and procedures governing taught programmes.

7. You may have to register with the University Medical Service

If you are a full-time student here for six months or more (and any student living in university accommodation for at least that period) you are required to register with one of the doctors in the University Medical Service (UMS) or with a local General Medical Practitioner (GP). To find out how to register, visit the UMS website at UEA Medical Services .

You are advised to complete the registration forms before arrival at UEA and bring the forms with you to register with the University Medical Service. Please do not post them to the University.
