Fathers, families and work
A key area of interest for the CRCF is “fathers, families and work”. Academic, policy and political interest in fathers, fatherhood and fathering is high, with particular interest in the contribution and involvement of fathers in the lives of children and young people. The research is headed by Margaret O’Brien with Sara Connolly (Director of UEA’s Business School’s ‘Diversity and Equality in Careers and Employment Research Centre), drawing together their expertise on work and parents. Our research at the Centre contributes to the much-needed evidence base to support policy and practice around fathers and includes studies relating to parental leave policy, work-life balance issues, fathering after divorce and separation and services aimed at supporting men as fathers. As well, Laura Biggart has illuminated the “long work hours” profile of British fathers and Georgia Philip has further strengthened CRCF’s research contribution to understanding the challenges of “father-inclusive” family support services.
