Biography

Jeanette Cossar joined the School in 2006 as a Lecturer in Social Work.  Her first degree is in Social and Political Sciences and she has an MA in Philosophy and an MA (DipSw) in Social Work. Before joining the School she was a childcare social worker in a local authority area team working in intake and assessment and with looked after children.

I was the principal investigator for a piece of research looking at children’s and young people’s views of the child protection process, commissioned by the Office of the Children’s Commissioner. The report can be accessed here.

Key Research Interests

I am developing my research interests after practising as a social worker up until 2006. I am currently involved in two research projects. The first is as part of a research team (with Dr Beth Neil, Dr Clive Sellick and Julie Young) working on a DFES funded investigation into support services for the birth relatives of looked after children. I am also working on a project with Caroline Long (Cambridgeshire County Council) looking at children’s involvement in child protection conferences in Cambridgeshire. I have an interest in service user involvement in research, which I am exploring in both projects.
