Making contact with UEA students

If you wish to write to a student you should address your letter to either their School of Study, for example, School of Biological Sciences, University of East Anglia, Norwich, NR4 7TJ, or if he or she is in University Accommodation, to their student residence, for example, Nelson Court, University of East Anglia, Norwich NR4 7TJ.

Post addressed to students at their School address is put in their pigeonhole in the School.  Post addressed to student residences is held in the UEA Post Room for collection.  It is important to let your student know that you have sent a letter or package so that they can make sure to check their pigeonhole or visit the Post Room.  All students also have an individual UEA email address.

If you need to make contact with a student in an emergency, and are not able to reach them directly by phone or email, you can telephone the University Switchboard (01603 456161) and ask to be put through to the student's School Office.  You can also contact the Dean of Students' Office on 01603 592761 who will trace your student and pass on any message.  Out of hours calls (5pm to 9am) should be directed to the University's Security Services on 01603 592352.

Parents sometimes become concerned because they have not heard from their son or daughter for a few days.  It is not at all uncommon for students who have previously kept in very regular contact with their families to become so involved in their University life and new friends that they forget to phone home, or begin to make contact much less frequently than they used to.  Our advice is not to panic - in our experience no news is almost always good news.  Of course, if you have good reason to be seriously concerned, do not hesitate to make contact with either the student's School or the Dean of Students' Office.
