UEA is committed to offering a very high standard of advice and guidance to its students. All undergraduate and Masters students have an Academic Adviser, who is a member of teaching staff in their School of Study. The Adviser is there to help guide students' academic and personal development and to help resolve any difficulties they face at an early stage, referring students to other specialist services as appropriate. Click this link for a guide to the UEA advisory system.
UEA also has a wide range of central student services that offer information, advice, guidance and/or counselling to all students. The provision includes the following:
- Resident Tutor system (peer guidance in University Residences)
- International Students' Advisory Team
- Mental Health Service
- Information and guidance for students with disabilities and specific learning difficulties
- Counselling
- Chaplaincy
- Learning enhancement and academic skills development
- Student financial advice
- Career development and job opportunities.
UEA also has a very highly rated University Medical Service on campus, which provides the full range of GP services and some specialist provision including travel advice and a sexual health clinic.
The central student service provision at UEA is the responsibility of the Dean of Students, whose Office is often the first point of call for students who wish to talk over their difficulties or find answers to their questions or queries. Students can be reassured that the staff in the Dean of Students' Office will treat all information given to them by students with the greatest discretion, and will not pass it on to others, including other staff at the University, without the students' explicit consent, other than in very exceptional circumstances (see the DOS Confidentiality Policy).
