Learning Enhancement Tutors can offer guidance on many aspects of your academic work in drop-ins and tutorials.
Our service is available to all students registered on UEA courses and is free and confidential. We are available throughout the year, except when the University is closed.
Please note that we do not offer a proofreading service, though we can provide you with a list of proofreaders. Remember to read UEA's policy on the use of proofreaders before using a proofreading service. You can access the policy by visiting our pages on plagiarism.
To find out more about our service, take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions.
Drop-ins
To talk about how we can help, or if you have a quick question, you can come to a drop-in. No appointment is necessary and a tutor will see you for 10 minutes. Drop-in sessions are held Monday to Thursday from 16:00-17:00 in the Dean of Students’ Office (please note that times may vary outside term time).
After you have attended a drop-in, a tutor may recommend that you book a 50 minute individual or small group tutorial.
Booking a tutorial
You can book an individual tutorial appointment either by visiting the Dean of Students' Office reception or by phone on 01603 592761.
If you are interested in setting up a small group tutorial please speak to a Learning Enhancement Tutor or email your request to dos.help@uea.ac.uk.
Only one tutorial can be booked at a time and we cannot usually offer more than one individual or small group tutorial per week. Please note that if you do not arrive on time for your appointment your tutor might not be able to see you.
If you are unable to attend face-to-face tutorials, perhaps because you are on a course which requires you to work away from UEA on placement, please contact us to discuss ways that we might be able to help you.
Non-attendance and cancellations
We recognise that sometimes late cancellations are unavoidable. However, given the high demand for our support, if you cannot attend your appointment for an individual or small group tutorial please let us know so that we may give the appointment to another student.
We reserve the right to withdraw availability of tutorials if, on three occasions, you either do not attend your individual or small group tutorial or cancel on the day of the appointment.
Making the most of your tutorial
We want our advice to you to be as useful as possible. For this reason please bring with you printed copies of any of the following that are relevant:
• marked work with feedback;
• module handbooks and assignment guidelines, essay questions or lecture notes;
• past exam papers;
• problem sheets;
• any work in progress which you would like to discuss.
