The Learning Enhancement Tutors' role is to support lecturing staff in maximising the student learning experience. The Tutors offer the following services:
- tailor-made workshops for Schools and Faculties, targeting particular student cohorts, which allow students to learn skills through working with real assignment materials from their own subject. Workshops focus on individual study skills such as Academic Writing, Critical Reading and Thinking, Exam Revision and Technique, Mathematics and Statistics, etc.;
- advice and support for lecturers who want to embed skills such as those listed above in their own content teaching and skills modules;
- Individual Tutorials, Clinics and Drop-ins for students who need more in-depth, personal support developing particular skills. We are happy to receive referrals from lecturers of students who would particularly benefit from such support. We can also offer drop-in 'Clinics' located in your School.
- Study Guides (paper and web-based) providing general advice on a range of topics. We welcome feedback from Schools on our Study Guides, and also opportunities to collaborate with lecturing staff on producing more subject specific versions for their students.
- Web resource areas which collate our materials on specialised topics such as plagiarism, or exams and revision. We have shortcuts which you can use to direct your students to these sites: www.uea.ac.uk/plagiarism www.uea.ac.uk/dos/revision www.uea.ac.uk/dos/dissertations
The Learning Enhancement Tutors feel that developing study skills is best done in the context of the students' subject discipline and the types of work they are asked to produce. We are keen to collaborate with Schools to provide students with a successful learning experience.
We have a range of leaflets and publicity which we would be happy to make available to you and your students. To request copies, please call DOS reception on 2761 or email us.
