Many of the changes individuals make - cycling to the UEA instead of driving, awareness of our diet in terms of a healthy balance but also the sourcing of food - have a positive impact on both our health and our carbon footprint.
As a leader in the sustainability field, the UEA is ideally positioned to serve as a model for a Healthy and Sustainable University in the UK by building on its existing strengths to forge connections that can deliver both health and sustainability benefits.
By integrating different foci (e.g mental wellbeing, food, exercise, travel, campus design) the Healthy and Sustainable UEA project has the potential to achieve benefits for the University and for the wider community - through staff productivity, student retention, 'future shaping' and corporate social responsibility.

- The CRed system was launched in May 2003 to communicate the issue of climate change, provide solutions to individuals in order to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and to record the results. CRed's ambition is to create a visible, low carbon community, whose energy saving actions would lead to a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2025, providing a road map for others to follow. The new CRed website is currently under development and is expected to be available in the new year.
