Sticker system for students with a specific learning difficulty: coursework
If you have a specific learning difficulty (SpLD), you can now choose to use a coloured sticker on your coursework, as well as on your course test and examination scripts. The coursework stickers are bright yellow to distinguish them from the stickers used on course tests and examination scripts.
Purpose
The purpose of stickers on coursework is to prompt staff to give students constructive feedback and effective guidance on how to improve their work. Coursework marking criteria do not change for students with specific learning difficulties.
Eligibility
You will be eligible to use stickers if you have provided acceptable evidence that you have one of the following SpLDs:
- Dyslexia
- Dyspraxia
- Dysgraphia
- Dyscalculia
- Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder
- Autism including Asperger Syndrome
The use of stickers is optional.
How to obtain stickers
Stickers can be obtained from Ian Mortimer in the Dean of Students’ Office. You must apply in person. You will be asked to show your campus card and to write your campus card number on the stickers at the point of issue. A record will be kept of the stickers issued to prevent misuse.
Feedback on written coursework: guidelines for staff September 2010
Be as clear as possible in giving feedback. For example:
- Provide clear explanations of what you regard as wrong with the work.
- Wherever possible relate comments directly to marking criteria (students can then identify where they need to improve/where they have lost marks).
- If spelling, grammar and punctuation are included in the assessment criteria, state this, and be clear how poor spelling, grammar and/or punctuation affects the student’s grade.
- Avoid multiple grammar, punctuation and spelling comments on a script.
- Avoid subtle innuendo and metaphor. Students often find it difficult to interpret what is meant and what they should do in response.
- Give praise where it is due.
