Information for Applicants

The Disability Team aims to offer information, advice and the co-ordination of support required by students both before and during their studies.  The more information we have in advance of your arrival, the easier it is for us to make any necessary preparations.  This can include any reasonable adjustments which are required for your studies or accommodation.

Key things to remember and do:

If you

  • have extra time, a computer, a room with your own invigilator or other examination arrangements
  • need specific adaptations and/or wheelchair accessible, en suite or ground floor accommodation
  • assistance with transition to university

you must

provide us with either a copy of a report from your Educational or Clinical Psychologist (age 16 or over, done not more than 3 years  ago) or a letter from your GP or other clinician which identifies your disability. If the Doctor’s letter can say what effects this has on your studies or other aspects of life (e.g. need for a quiet room or en suite accommodation), then this would be very helpful.

If you

  • have meetings with a learning support,  dyslexia tutor or mentor
  • require technology to help with your studies
  • require a reader, scribe or note taker
  • incur extra costs for travel because of your disability
  • require books in digital or braille formats

and are a home student, you must also apply for Disabled Students’ Allowances.

International students
and those who have not be ordinarily resident in the UK for 3 years prior to entry do not qualify for the Disabled Students’ Allowance. Please send in your information and the Disability Co-ordinator will contact you.

If you are due to start at the University in September 2013 please fill in the forms attached below and return to the disability team, either by post to the Dean of Student's Office or by email to disability@uea.ac.uk
