Students with a Disability, including dyslexia

IMPORTANT NEWS

If you have a specific learning difficulty (dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, ADD/ADHD, Aspergers Syndrome) you may now choose to use a coloured sticker on course work as well as course tests and examination papers.  Click here to find out more.

The University welcomes students with disabilities.

The Disability Team within the Dean of Students' Office is responsible for the provision of information and advice and for co-ordinating the support needed by students with:

  • physical and sensory disabilities
  • specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia
  • mental health difficulties
  • long term medical conditions
  • temporary disabilities such as broken limbs

It is now possible to apply for Disabled Students' Allowance for the academic year 2012/13. To download the application form and guidance notes go to the DirectGov website.  If you need further help completing your application please ask a member of the Disability Team.

The University's Single Equality Scheme and Action Plan replaces the separate Disability and Gender Schemes and plans.  It extends focus to take age, religion and belief and sexual orientation into account.  Further information about equality and diversity on campus is available by following this link to the Equality and Diversity Office site.

At first, the campus can seem daunting, particularly to people with restricted mobility.  DisabledGo is a searchable site which provides detailed information about access to and within the buildings and other campus facilities.
