Arrival Day

The Arrival Day is the designated day for new international students to arrive at UEA, unless your school as informed you otherwise.  If you are living in UEA accommodation, you will be able to collect your keys, sign your contract, and we will help you to your room with your luggage.  We will also have information and details about what is happening over the next few days, as well as information to help you settle in to a new city and country.  If you are living off campus you are welcome to come in to pick up more information and find out what is happening.

The International Student Advisory Team will be in the Thomas Paine Study Centre to welcome all new students and answer any questions you may have.  On the Arrival Day in the Thomas Paine building you can also:
  • Get your accommodation key if living in UEA Accommodation
  • Get your visa and passport scanned (required)
  • Study Abroad and ERASMUS students only can reguster for their course

Arrival Date: 3 January 2013, Thursday
Time: 9.00 - 18.00
Location: Thomas Paine Study Centre (52 on the campus map)

Arrival Week

During the Arrival Week the ISA Team will be welcoming students, organising an orientation programme and holding a variety of events and activities to give you the information need you need and to give you a chance to meet other new international students.  Your school will have their inductions and the Student Union will be holding many events and opportunities to meet other students and to sign up for clubs and societies.

International students arrive a few days before the rest of the students arrive.  These few days will give you time to settle in and help make the transition to the UK and UEA as easy as possible before everything gets busy.  This does mean that campus will be a little quite for a few days and your hall of residence may feel empty.  You might be the only student in your flat.  Do not worry, this will not last, so enjoy the time and get familiar with life in the UK.

Travelling to Norwich

Details of how to get to Norwich can be found on Travel to Norwich and UEA.

Arriving at UEA Late

If you arrive on campus after 8 pm during one of the arrival days, please report to the Security Lodge to collect your room key.  The Security Lodge is open 24 hours a day and there is also a UEA staff member there to assist you.

Orientation

At the orientation programme you will hear short presentations from a variety of services across the campus, from the UEA Medical Centre to how the UK university education system works.  Orientation provides you with a lot of very important information that you will need while at UEA.  You might not be able to remember everything, but you will at least know where to go when you need something.

Dates: Friday 4 January
Starting at 10.30am
Location: Thomas Paine Study Centre - Lecture Theatre

Meet and Greet Service

Unfortuntely the Meet and Greet Service is not available in January.  It is only provided in September for the start of the new academic year. For more information about travelling to Norwich please see Travelling to Norwich and UEA

Arriving at Other Times of the Year

We appreciate that not everyone can arrive on the Arrivals Days.

If you are unable to arrive on the Arrivals Days and have UEA accommodation, you will need to arrive on campus between 9.00 and 17.00 Monday-Friday, and report to the Accommodation Office (18 on the campus map) to obtain the keys for your room.  If you will be arriving outside of these hours you will need to arrange your own accommodation, by booking a room in a local Bed and Breakfast (B&B) or hotel, until the Accommodation Office opens again. You can find a list of local hotels and bed and breakfasts here. If you do arrive on campus in the middle of the night and you have no place to stay, go to the Security Lodge and they will do their best to help you.
