The Nursery Hardship Fund

Introduction

The Nursery Hardship Fund is to help registered UEA students whose children attend the UEA Nursery and who would have difficulty meeting the full cost of the fees.  On the basis of a simple means test, contributions from the Fund are allocated on a sliding scale so that help is targeted on those with the lowest incomes.  The Fund is cash limited and priority is given to students:

  • who are not eligible for the Childcare Grant, the NHS Childcare Grant or the childcare element of Working Tax Credit;
  • single parents and couples where both partners are UEA students and need to place their child(ren) in the Nursery in order to attend their courses;
  • students whose partners are working to provide the main household income and who are not eligible for help with childcare costs from any other source.

Either academic or full-year contracts are available and retainer fees are now charged for the difference between the contract length and 52 weeks.  (Further information about retainer fees and contract lengths is available from the UEA Nursery.)  Help is not normally available from the Nursery Hardship Fund towards the cost of the retainer fee because of the limited budget available.
