Biochemistry connects major themes in Biology and Chemistry, providing extraordinary insight into advances at the cutting-edge of science and technology. Topics like cell biology, genetics and medicinal chemistry are developing in fascinating directions with the potential to provide solutions to some of science's biggest problems: generating clean energy, fighting disease and understanding the origins of life.
Biochemistry students benefit from the flexibility of a wide range of optional module choices in the Schools of Chemistry and Biological Sciences. This allows you to tailor the emphasis of your degree on Biology or Chemistry according to your preference. You also have the opportunity to choose between BSc and MSci courses with variants offering a year spent in industry or a year spent at a partner university broad.
We have a global reputation for research in biochemistry - the School of Biological Sciences has 100% of its research output internationally recognised and the School of Chemistry is ranked 4th in the UK for the quality of its research (REF 2014). On top of this we're partnered with a number of major bioscience institutes on the Norwich Research Park.
