MSc Games Development
Computer games companies have dictated the advancement of computer graphics hardware and software over the last decade. Therefore, Computer Games Development has become one of the major applications of computer graphics technology and should be on the curriculum of any computer science school which aims to train and prepare their students with the skills needed to successfully pursue a career in the games and entertainment industries.
The School of Computing Sciences at the University of East Anglia offers this training opportunity through the MSc in Games Development. The course is designed for students with a degree in computing. Applicants should have excellent programming skills (C/C++ or JAVA). Graphics programming experience (OpenGL, DirectX, XNA) is a bonus though not essential.
Course units will cover a wide range of topics including games architecture and engines, character animation, motion capture, games physics, collision detection, specialist input/output devices (e.g. haptic/force feedback, stereoscopic displays, HMD’s, motion tracking), virtual environments, advanced rendering, movie animation and special effects.
Development platforms taught include:
Furthermore, we use 3D Studio Max for geometry creation and character animation.
Coursework exercises and projects are incremental hence leading to a number of final products, including 2D/3D games and animation for your future portfolio.
The School has an excellent record in both post-BSc and post-MSc placements and currently we have several of our graduates working in the entertainment and games development industries, notably at:
Bizarre Creations in Liverpool
BlitzGames in Leamington Spa
Note that MSc projects/dissertations and placements in industry are on offer subject to approval of the participating companies.
