Computing Sciences : Masters Degrees & Diplomas

Welcome to Postgraduate Admissions at the School of Computing Sciences. We offer a choice of different degrees which cover a wide range of computing disciplines:

These courses have been designed for:

  • Computer science graduates to allow them to broaden the knowledge of computing science gained from an undergraduate degree and to deepen their knowledge in one of the ares of research and specialist expertise in the School of Computing Sciences.
  • Practitioners and returners to the computing industry wanting to update their skills or change direction.
  • Graduates in the biological or chemical sciences wishing to specialise in bioinformatics.
  • Graduates of other disciplines wanting to obtain a postgraduate qualification in computing.

All our MSc courses share a similar structure, where students take a range of compulsory and optional taught modules from September to April, followed by a dissertation. The dissertation topic is usually linked to the research of one of the School's research groupings, or laboratories. The School's research is described more fully on the research section.

Applicants who do not meet our normal entry criteria, or who want a shorter course, may register for a Postgraduate Diploma in Computing Science or a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Computing Science. Students admitted for a postgraduate Diploma are offered the opportunity to transfer to the MSc if they make good progress in the course.
