Research Performance

The international significance of UEA's research has been confirmed by the Times Higher Education world rankings for 2012 which placed UEA in the UK top 10 and in the world top 60 for research impact through citations of our research.

Assessment of Research

A periodic national exercise assesses the quality of research in all UK higher education institutions where submissions from each subject area (or Unit of Assessment) are rated by a subject specialist peer review panel. Previously known as the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), the results of the next periodic review, now called the Research Excellence Framework (REF), will be published in 2014.

Results from the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise confirmed the University of East Anglia as one of the leading research institutions in the UK placing UEA 35th in the research rankings of all UK universities.

  • Over 50 per cent of the University's research activity was deemed to be world leading or internationally excellent with 87% in total being of international standing.
  • Outstanding performances places History of Art, Film Studies, American Studies and International Development in the top three in the country, with Environmental Sciences and Pharmacy in the top ten.

Please view RAE2008 for further details on our RAE submissions.
