What's it like to balance being part of a social club with work experience and university study? We asked current undergraduate student Poppy Jones to tell us about her week...
Monday
My day started reading for one of my modules before heading onto the University's campus for a lecture with dozens of others studying my course. Met up with friends over a late lunch and by four o'clock was in a History seminar.
This evening spent some time responding to queries from members of the Fell Walking Club (I'm Secretary), and arranged a walk for next Saturday.
Tuesday
Had a meeting with my Academic Adviser and discussed how I was getting on at university. When I checked my emails, I found out that my application to visit Penguin Publishing in London for an open day next week has been accepted – I am so excited!
Wednesday
Two hour seminar for my Publishing module, where we learnt all about copyright.
Went out for a meal tonight with friends to celebrate my housemate’s birthday, followed by Ceilidh dancing, a type of Scottish dancing, really good fun. The live band call out instructions to teach you the dance, but not many people really know what they are doing!
Thursday
Today was my housemate’s birthday so we all went shopping in Norwich and had great fun trying on different outfits. In the evening, I went to a talk from the author Penelope Lively, which was really interesting.
Friday
A two hour seminar for my News module and during the afternoon edited articles for the magazine that I am creating for my Publishing module. In the evening I went to see the Manic Street Preachers in the University's own gig venue, the LCR (Lower Common Room). They were amazing to see live and there was a great atmosphere.
Saturday
I did some coursework during the day, including reading for History on Monday.
Went to the LCR again. The theme was The Other One, with hits from the 2000s.
Sunday
Up bright and early to go on a day walk in the Norfolk Broads with the Fell Club. I was in charge of the walk, so I felt I had quite a lot of responsibility! We drove to Ludham from campus in a minibus, and then walked most of the day. The Broads were beautiful and it was a lovely, relaxed day which came as a welcome break from coursework.
