Biography

Dr Nicholas Walsh joined UEA as a lecturer in Developmental Psychology in 2013. He gained his undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Surrey and his PhD in Cognitive Neuropsychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London. He then gained postdoctoral experience at the Departments of Psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh and University of Cambridge.

Key Research Interests

My broad research interests are in the developmental aetiology, maintenance, and consequences of stress-related states and personality/psychopathological traits. My current interests examine how stress affects neuropsychological, and especially cerebellar-related processes.

To do this my lab uses experimental techniques and paradigms to assess stress reactivity and cerebellar functioning in normative, high-risk and clinical participants.  

Current techniques and paradigms being used include neuroimaging (fMRI, sMRI), neuromodulation (tDCS), behavioural (eye-tracking, balance and coordination) and cognitive, emotion and motivation paradigms (executive control, emotion processing) in conjunction with biological markers of stress reactivity (e.g. cortisol).
