Biography

Dr Irene Sperandio received her MSc in Psychology (2004) from the University of Padova (Italy). She completed her PhD (2009) at the Department of Neurological and Vision Sciences of the University of Verona (Italy), under the co-supervision of Prof. Carlo Alberto Marzi and Prof. Silvia Savazzi. During her PhD, Irene used behavioural techniques to examine size constancy mechanisms and visual illusions. From 2009 to 2012, Irene worked in Mel Goodale's lab at the Brain and Mind Institute of the University of Western Ontario (London, Canada) as a postdoctoral fellow, where she became interested in how the human brain represents perceived size. At Western, Irene conducted several projects that involved different experimental techniques such as neuroimaging, visual psychophysics, eye movements and kinematic recordings. Irene has worked at the UEA as a Lecturer in Psychology since December 2012.

Key Research Interests

Irene's major research interest concerns how the human visual system computes and represents visuo-spatial information and how this information is translated into perceptual reports or goal-directed actions such as grasping. In her research, Irene carries out behavioural and neuroimaging experiments with both healthy and neurological participants.
