Internships

Parliamentary placements

We offer up to eight parliamentary placements each year to final year undergraduate students.
  • These placements can be taken as part of the course instead of a normal dissertation.
  • Students undertake work for local MPs to research a policy issue that the MP is interested in.
  • It is an excellent opportunity to get hands-on experience of research methods and writing a professional report.

Previous host MPs have included Ian Gibson, Andrew Lansley, and Julian Huppert.

Brussels internships

We also offer up to ten internships working with the East of England Brussels Office to final year undergraduate students.
  • These internships are targeted at students who have completed modules in European Union politics.
  • They can form part of a final year module or can be carried out during vacations.
  • Contributions towards expenses are available.

Students work as Policy Officers for the region, identifying relevant issues in European Union legislation.

Media internships

We offer practical media internships as part of our MA in Broadcast Journalism. Past placements have included the BBC, Future Radio, Radio Norwich, Archant and EPIC.

Our Advertising internship allows UEA students to work at the History of Advertising Trust (HAT) at Raveningham, Norfolk. The Trust houses the largest advertising archive in the UK and provides an unrivalled chance for students interested in advertising to work on a project of their own choice.
  • The internship replaces the final year dissertation module.
  • All costs are covered.

Other schemes

  • We can arrange contacts with local government, think tanks, and other campaign groups.
  • We can provide work shadowing opportunities, particularly in local government.
  • We are willing to provide a bespoke service for students who wish to gain experience in areas close to our own work in politics, culture, and policy.
  • Students who wish to improve their employability can arrange a meeting with our Employability Liaison officer.
