The three PSI Broadcast Journalism students – Will Hanford, Guy Wilson and Nat Dove - have won the BBC National Postgraduate Journalism Innovation Award. They were at Media City, Salford, on Thursday 24 May 2012, for the announcement and presentation. Read more

Stop press: PSI at the top again in the National Student Survey 2010
The School has continued its impressive performance in the National Student Survey, the annual exercise where third-year students are asked to rate the quality of their University experience. In results announced today, PSI tops the league table in Media Studies, is joint first in Sociology and comes seventh out of sixty departments in Politics for overall satisfaction. Read more

Three students on PSI's Practical Media module have completed a one month full-time work experience placement at the BBC. David Biggins, Nan Hu and Chris Wilson worked across TV, radio and online at the Forum in Norwich. Read more

Professors Hussein Kassim, UEA and Liesbet Hooghe, UNC and VUA, presented a provisional overview of findings from the project, "The European Commission in Question" to a high-level gathering of officials in the Berlaymont building in Brussels on Wednesday 30 June and at the weekly meeting of Directors General the following day. UEA Politics and International Relations students visit Brussels
25 politics and international relations students visited NATO headquarters in Brussels as well as EU institutions during the 2010 Easter break and took part in a reception with alumni who today live and work in the city. Places visited included NATO Headquarters, its military command, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, the European Parliament and the Commission, the Committee of the Regions, and the Economic and Social Committee. UEA introduces local government studies
Local government employs more than 2m people in Britain and offers a wide range of career opportunities. Teaching is based in the School of Political, Social and international Studies (PSI) to complement studies of politics, governance and related studies. There will also be guest speakers and work shadowing for students, which aims to give real insights into working in the sector. Read more

UEA in Brussels
UEA alumni have set up a FaceBook site to keep in touch and to arrange social events thanks to a visit to EU and NATO institutions in Belgium by 50 UEA undergraduate and postgraduates last April. Over 20 alumni who live and work in Belgium today took part in a reception with the students at the Brussels Office of the East of England Partnership which promotes the Eastern region and gathers intelligence for its members on such things as making bids for EU funding. On 4 and 5 June, the first PSI Postgraduate research conference was held at UEA, entitled ‘Shifting boundaries of the public and private’. The result of brainstorming by PSI’s PGR students, the theme for the conference encapsulated central issues at the heart of several PhD theses, as the boundaries between the public and private spheres are central to how we study politics, society and culture, economy, political theory and international relations, amongst others. Practical Media: Ground-breaking programme launched
PSI has extended its practical media provision after a successful trial run last year. The first postgraduate practical media module at UEA is run in conjunction with the EPIC TV Studios (formerly Anglia/ITV) and taught by highly experienced journalists such as Ian Masters (former presenter of Anglia News, Director of Broadcasting at the Thomson Foundation and manager of several BBC radio stations and BBC TV South).
