PSI engages with the most pressing issues of the contemporary world. Research in PSI can be divided into four main areas, where our scholars deliver highly-rated research, achieving national and international recognition.
Politics and media
Key research themes are: public service broadcasting and competition policy; entertainment and citizenship; political communication; public opinion; new media and society; new media methods; international communication.
Public policy and public management
Key research themes are: British politics; electoral institutions; EU institutions and administration; competition policy; environmental policy and sustainable development; media policy; policy theory; science and public understanding
Cultural politics and contemporary political theory
Key research themes are: contemporary cultural and political theory; language and politics; public intellectuals and politics; cultural policy; interculturalism.
International politics
Key research themes are: international environmental politics; international security; global cities; international law; EU politics.
Our scholars have been awarded grants by the ESRC, the AHRC, the British Academy, the European Commission, the Leverhulme Trust and the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust.
