‘The Too Difficult Box' is a series convened in PSI by the Rt Hon Charles Clarke and Professor Hussein Kassim, in which experienced policy-makers look at the obstacles that make solutions to these issues difficult to achieve.
The formation of the Conservative-Liberal Democratic government was an historic moment for a political system that has become synonymous with single-party government.

We aim to help our students keep their fingers on the pulse and expose them to some of the greatest minds.

Examples of PSI's lecture series and conferences include:

  • The Too Difficult Box: Rt Hon Charles Clarke presents a lecture series addressing seemingly intractable issues in modern politics.
  • Media & Politics: a lecture series inviting leading figures in British media and politics to address current burning issues, such as the Leveson enquiry and media regulation
  • Philosopher Kings? (PDF): this lecture series sees current and former politicians discuss the relationship between philosophy and contemporary politics
  • The Coalition at One: a two-day conference in 2011 in which 33 speakers discussed the Conservative-Liberal Democrat Coalition Government

The School also runs events in the city of Norwich, discussing contemporary political issues with the local community, students and scholars. Recent events have included ‘The Referendum – What's at Issue?' and ‘Explaining the Financial Crisis'.
