My experience at the Union, combined with the analytical and public speaking skills I developed as part of my course helped me during the interview process, and in the end I was offered a place on a 3 year auditing training programme with KPMG.

The BBC is one of a number of organizations where PSI has worked to arrange placements for students to gain work experience.

We know that one of the most important reasons you go to University is to improve your job prospects after you graduate – so it's natural that one of your most pressing questions will be about the opportunities PSI can help you to access.

As well as a focus on developing skills and employability in our courses, PSI offers opportunities to help you gain experience and an awareness of career opportunities.

Gaining relevant experience

We aim to equip our students with the skills and experience to compete effectively in the job market. At PSI, we are here to support you to really differentiate yourself and impress potential employers through opportunities to gain relevant and valuable experience.

There is a broad range of opportunities available through PSI and the UEA – from study trips to international internships, voluntary work to graduate programmes.

Internship programmes available include:

  • Brussels Internships Programme: a month-long placement as a Policy Officer in the East of England Brussels Office, working alongside members of the European Parliament, the European Commission and other lobbying, activist and third sector groups.
  • Media Internships: practical media internships as part of our MA in Broadcast Journalism. Past placements have included the BBC, Future Radio, Radio Norwich, Archant and EPIC.
  • Parliamentary Internships Programme: up to eight placements each year for final year undergraduates to work with an MP, MEP or pressure group to research a policy issue

Career opportunities

We're committed to supporting you as you look towards your future career. As well as the internships mentioned above, PSI offers a range of opportunities to introduce you to possible career opportunities – ranging from study visits to local, national and international organisations, to certified programmes and graduate development positions.

Examples of these opportunities include:

  • BICEP – our International Careers and Employability Programme: most recently held in Brussels and Kortrijk in Belgium, BICEP is a one-week certified programme to raise awareness of job opportunities in international organisations.
  • Study Visits & Field Trips: whether to international locations such as the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Secretariat in Brussels, or national institutions in London or the East of England, PSI organises a broad range of study visits.
  • Local Government National Graduate Programme: a two-year graduate management development programme run by the Local Government Association, offering a range of placements in local government.

PSI graduates have gone on to a broad range of careers. Find out more about how our graduates have applied their degrees.

If you have any questions about careers and employability, you can contact the School or get in touch with UEA's dedicated Careers & Employability centre.
