Dr Lee Marsden is Senior Lecturer in International Relations in the School of Political, Social and International Studies. He is a specialist in US Foreign Policy, religion and security and teaches modules on international security and conflict resolution, fundamentalism,, religion and international relations. In November 2009, he is a regular speaker at national and international conferences and has been awarded a UEA ‘Excellence in Teaching’ award. He been a member of the executive committee of the British International Studies Association since 2008 and is co-convenor of its United States Foreign Policy working group.
Lee is a UEA alumni having entered higher education as a mature student in 1996 after a number of years in business management. He won the Thomas Paine prize for politics in 1999 before going on to achieve an MA in International Relations (distinction) at UEA and then a PhD, as the first full time student in government and politics at the Open University. Lee’s thesis on democracy promotion in Russia was nominated for the Lord Bryce Prize in Comparative and International Politics in 2005. From 2003 to 2005, he was a Research Fellow at City College. In 2005 Dr Marsden won an ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship award at UEA researching on US democracy promotion before his first appointment as Lecturer in International Relations at Oxford Brookes University in September 2006. He returned to the School of Political, Social and International Studies in September 2007 as Lecturer in Politics and International Relations.

Lee's current research interests include religion and international relations, US foreign policy, and international security teaching political and international relations theory. He is particularly interested in supervising research students on US foreign policy, especially during the Clinton, Bush and Obama presidencies, , Religion and international relations, the Palestine/Israel conflict, the Christian Right and Left in US foreign and domestic policy, and International Security. Dr Marsden has introduced three new modules at undergraduate level in International Security and Conflict Resolution, Terrorism, and the Clash of Fundamentalisms and two new Masters modules in Religion and International Relations and International Security. In 2008 he won one of the UEA's Teaching Excellence Awards.
