Points-based Immigration requirements
Welcome to the University of East Anglia. All students of the University are required to observe the University's Regulations concerning attendance and progress. A student who does not comply with the requirements for the course for which they are registered will be subject to disciplinary action.
Many students at UEA will have been welcomed from overseas and their study will be dependent upon a visa granted by the UK Boarders Agency (UKBA). As you will be aware, following the introduction of the Points-Based Immigration system, the University of East Anglia has sponsored your entry to the UK for the purposes of studying. As the sponsor of your visa we are legally required to follow specific UKBA requirements.
I have set out below some of the ways that the University of East Anglia will implement its legal responsibilities and the action you must take in order to comply with them. The University will monitor your attendance and progress at UEA in a number of ways including requiring you to report in person to your Faculty Office on a number of occasions throughout the year. All students are also required to provide contact details so that the University may contact them at any time. On a regular basis we will send you a reminder by email of the requirement for you to do this and remind you of the process to follow. However, it is a condition of continued registration with the University that you do so in a timely manner as soon as you become aware of such changes. Examples of the information we require you to keep up to date are:
It is also a requirement that the University assures itself that you are continuing to study in accordance with the terms of your visa. This will mean that on a number of occasions each year you will be contacted and asked to present yourself, together with a form of identification, at one of the Faculty Offices. Please ensure that you attend when requested as failure to do so could lead to you being in breach of the terms and conditions attached to your visa.
May I also take this opportunity to make you aware that we may also be required to share your personal details with the UK Borders Agency if requested to do so. This reporting is mandatory and is part of our duties as a sponsor.
I wish you well with your studies at the University.
