The School of Philosophy at UEA is a young and dynamically developing research unit, whose high academic standing was recognized in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, where 35% of its contributions were rated world-leading or internationally excellent.
With several major research monographs published since then, the School is currently at a peak of its innovative research activity, while maintaining its enthusiastic commitment to teaching. At the heart of the School’s distinctive profile are five research areas:

Research Students
The School recruits research students for MPhil/PhD research in all the research areas listed above.Many potential students enter by way of a 1+3 programme which includes a taught Master followed by a three year PhD programme.
Philosophy Society and Wittgenstein Workshop
Our Philosophy Society offers a weekly venue for professional philosophers from the UK, US and Europe to present their latest work. Special sessions in our series of research talks are devoted to the Wittgenstein workshop, where members of the School and leading scholars in the field of Wittgenstein studies discuss their work-in-progress (past speakers include James Conant, Crispin Wright, Barry Smith, Juliet Floyd, Peter Hacker).
