Pharmacy Assistant Training

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) require all pharmacy, dispensing and medicines counter assistants to be competent to a minimum of a level 2 standard in the area(s) in which they work. They require the training to commence within 3 months of the pharmacy assistant commencing their employment.

The most up-to-date training requirements can be found on the GPhC website.

There are a number of GPhC accredited level 2 courses available as well as the recognised Level 2 (NVQ) Certificate in Pharmacy Services Skills (QCF) qualification and the QCF Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science.

A full list of accredited Level 2 courses can be found on the GPhC website.

Apprenticeship

Depending on the trainee’s previous qualifications, they may qualify for Apprenticeship funding.
