In the RAE 2008 exercise, UEA Pharmacy came 6th in the rankings of all schools of Pharmacy, despite the exercise spanning and amassing evidence from activity going back to 2001, well before the Pharmacy school at UEA was even founded.
Pharmaceutical Research within the Schools of Pharmacy and Chemistry represents a unique collaborative venture that has both depth in its individual areas as well as breadth in terms of the collaborations outlined below. The research is managed as follows. In the first instance, pharmacy is composed of four themes that are administrative in structure and focused on established pharmaceutical and related subject matter.
The four pharmaceutical themes are:
- Drug Delivery and Materials Characterisation
- Pharmaceutical Cell Biology
- Medicinal Chemistry
- Medicines Management
Research is cross-departmental and cross-institutional with collaboration and cooperation with Schools across UEA (particularly Biology, Chemistry and Faculty of Health) as well as the research institutes throughout the Norwich Research Park (John Innes Centre, Institute of Food Research, Norfolk and Norwich Hospital).
