Clinical and International Partners

Clinical Partners
The School of Nursing Sciences works closely with a full range of clinical service providers within the region and the vast majority of our students are offered employment locally when they qualify. Many return to us as qualified practitioners for their professional development requirements and we are the provider of choice for some out-of-county services for specialist programmes.

We work in partnership with:

International Partners

The School has established a strong and growing network of international partners, some offering opportunities for elective placements for pre-registration students at the end of their third year.

Cameroon Universities
With funding from the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills and managed by the British Council under the England Africa Partnership Scheme, the School has been working with two higher educational institutions in Cameroon, West Africa since 2007. The two institutions are the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Buea and the Higher Institute of Applied Medical Sciences both of which are located in the South-West region of Cameroon. The collaborative work has included developing pre-registration nursing programmes at degree and diploma level as well as a programme at Masters level to prepare experienced nurses to become competent nurse teachers.

Thailand Universities
There are currently 11 nursing and midwifery students from Thailand studying for their PhDs in the School. The areas of study include healthy eating in Thai adolescents, attitudes to HIV testing in migrant women in Thailand and interventions for Thai community dwelling people with knee osteoarthritis. They reflect a wide range of research methodologies. The students have presented their doctoral work in posters and oral presentations at international conferences in Europe and Asia.

Malawi
The Norwich-Dedza Partnership was set up in 2004 and is a charitable trust co-ordinated by volunteers which is supported by Norwich City Council. It was established to enable organisations and individuals in and around Norwich to assist in the development of the District of Dedza in Malawi.

An exciting range of educational institutions, schools, local government agencies, health providers, voluntary sector, commercial companies and individuals are involved. The School is exploring opportunities to develop some joint work with Schools of Nursing and Midwifery in Malawi. One of the projects offers the opportunity for students in their third year to visit Dedza on a two week elective to observe a different health care system. The overall aim of this elective is to offer student nurses (who have almost completed their 3 year nursing programme) an opportunity to gain valuable insights into different ways of delivering health care and to experience a unique opportunity for a more in-depth exploration of the concept of transcultural nursing.

Guernsey
The School of Nursing Sciences has a partnership agreement with the Institute of Health and Social Care Studies in Guernsey. As part of this agreement, two of our pre-registration nursing programmes (Adult and Mental Health Nursing) have been endorsed by the NMC to be delivered by the Institute in Guernsey. UEA based students have opportunity to engage in dialogue with Guernsey students and opportunities for placement exchange are currently being explored.
