Interactivity, Ubiquitous Technology and Music Performance
John Bowers was an EPSRC Visiting Research Fellow to the School of Music for October 2004 - September 2005. The Fellowship was one of four funded as part of the EPSRC's Culture and Creativity research programme. Associated with the Fellowship was a programme of research, the main objectives of which were:
- to enhance bi-directional research between music and computer science, through...
- conducting a program of ethnographic and video analytic study of sound artists performing with and developing performance technologies, in particular...
- to capture the various senses and approaches to interactivity which are practically attended to in contemporary interactive music, and...
- through a series of workshops and a colloquium, to disseminate accounts of creativity in musical performance and technology design and extrapolate insights into the nature of interaction with ubiquitous technologies.
In addition, to provide further practical focus to the intersection between music and computer science as explored through this Fellowship, as well as to enhance its value in terms of public dissemination:
- a collaborative musical event illustrating and responding to the findings of the research was produced.
