The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise rated over half of the School's research activity to be world-leading or internationally excellent.
All members of faculty in the School of Mathematics were entered into the UK's 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, submitting work in Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences. Over half of the research activity from the School was judged to be world-leading or internationally excellent, with 60 percent of activity from the Pure Mathematics group judged to be at this level, putting it joint 13th in the UK.
