Regional approach
• This is an initiative supported at all levels, including at the most senior level in Greater Manchester Social Services Departments.
• The work proposed will be delivered across all service user groups in particular where joint working between Health Social Services agencies is taking place i.e. services for children and families, learning disabled adults, adults with physical impairments and / or physical health related needs, adults with mental health related needs and older people; and in addition human resources and management.
• The work is aimed at staff with front line responsibilities and at staff involved in strategic planning (including operational staff where appropriate).
• The work is concerned with the implementation as well as dissemination of research findings.
Making Research Count is overseen by a Advisory group, meeting annually to agree a programme of events and to have overall responsibility for MRC (G Man) The purpose of the advisory group, is to make accessible to practitioners and managers the research expertise available within the Group and from experienced researchers from the University, in order to address ‘real life’ challenges arising in the work of the agencies.
The university department in which the regional programme has been developed:
Making Research Count is located in the School of Community, Health Sciences and Social Care. The School has at its heart a philosophy that values the unique contribution of each individual, at whatever academic level, whether undergraduate, postgraduate or post-doctoral. Located within a Faculty that brings together an extensive range of academic and professional staff within the broad field of health and social care, the School provides an excellent forum for interdisciplinary work to meet the modern policy and practice agenda.
