Making Research Count

Welcome to the website of Making Research Count

Making Research Count is a national research dissemination network based regionally in the social work departments of ten English Universities. All ten universities have a proven track record in social work and social care research as well as providing social work education at qualifying and post- qualifying levels.

Each university in the Making Research Count network works within its region with providers of social work and social care services, and agency membership of Making Research Count includes children and young people’s services, adult and community care departments, health trusts and independent sector organisation. Some 60 agencies throughout England are currently engaged in the network.

Through a series of local conferences, seminars and workshops each Making Research Count programme is engaged in the:

• Dissemination of research from academics, practitioners, carers and users
• Promotion of knowledge-based practice to improve local services
• Encouragement of knowledge sharing and networking among professionals
• Development of research mindedness and critical research appraisal skills of practitioners
• Support of practitioners and managers undertaking research and evaluation.
