The focus of the Department of Nutrition is on contemporary public health problems in the UK, including conditions related to obesity, chronic diseases that are responsive to diet, and nutritional issues associated with the ageing population. The research spans from fundamental mechanistic studies (based in our Biomedical Research Centre) to intervention and community based studies (using our Clinical Research and Trials Unit).

Key areas of research interest include:

  • Dietary flavonoids and cardiovascular and metabolic health
  • Micronutrient research
  • Fatty acids and cardiovascular health
  • Nutrition and healthy ageing
