Biography

My research primarily focuses on the influence of culture on the processes involved in the aetiology and maintenance of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I currently have a four year National Institute for Health Research Fellowship (Dec 2010 – present: NIHR Fellowship - Cultural Differences in the Processes Involved in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder) to further research in this area. The roles of autobiographical memory, appraisals, information processing and self and identity in the development and maintenance of PTSD have been a central focus of this work. This research aims to improve the theoretical and clinical relevance of current cognitive PTSD models for those from different cultural backgrounds. I am also a clinical psychologist working within an refugee/asylum seeker service.
