Biography

I qualified with MBBS from the Middlesex Hospital Medical School, London, in 1987. I completed my GP training in 1991 with MRCGP. After some world travelling I worked as a GP in Oxfordshire, arriving in Norfolk in 1995. While working as a GP I completed a Masters degree in Health Management at City University, London in 1997. In 2006 I started doing OSCEs and PBL tutoring at the medical school as an associate tutor, and was appointed Clinical Lecturer in 2008, then Clinical Senior Lecturer in 2014. I was lead PBL tutor for 4 years and now have a variety of roles including head of year 1, deputy admissions tutor, year 1 PBL tutor support, PBL tutor for year 4, and assessment roles. I have developed a mentoring programme for teaching and research academics in the Faculty. My research is on clinical academics' understanding of resilience and its modulators in medical students, and ways that tutors can help students develop adaptive coping strategies. I speak fluent Spanish as I lived in Madrid for 16 years and my mother is Anglo-Argentine.

Key Research Interests

Resilience in medical students: I am carrying out a qualitative research project exploring the understanding that experienced clinical medical educators have about the concept of resilience in medical students.
