Biography

I moved to the School of Health Sciences at the UEA in October 2016 as a Lecturer in Nursing Sciences (Adult) on completion of my PhD ('Understanding, recognising and preventing dehydration in older residents living in care homes: a mixed methods study'). My research interests are hydration and nutritional care in older care home residents. I have also worked on a number of projects relating to nutritional and hydration care with Dr Lee Hooper (Making Drinking Fun Study; Dehydration Recognition in our Elders, DRIE, http://driestudy.appspot.com/; Eating and Drinking Well in Dementia, EDWINA) and Dr Ailsa Welch (reviewing the nutritional and hydration guidelines for care homes and a systematic review investigating the impact of a Mediterranean diet on musculoskeletal health).

Prior to joining the UEA I worked with the Norfolk Arthritis Register, a longitudinal observational study of inflammatory polyarthritis aiming to establish the cause, incidence and outcome of IP. As Clinical Manager I was responsible for a team of nurses and support staff involved in data collection. This involved recruitment from both primary and secondary care, as well as follow-up for the 3,500 participants recruited since 1990.

When I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1983, I specialised in respiratory care before moving into Midwifery.
