Biography

After graduating with degrees in Economics and Health Economics at the Universities of Southampton and York I worked as a health economist for East Sussex Health Authority.  After this I embarked on an academic career at a number of Universities.

A key component of my academic career has been the design, implementation and analysis of economic evaluations alongside clinical studies, particularly randomized controlled trials.  I have been involved in numerous trials as the health economist.  I have also been involved with a number of health economic models as well as NICE technology appraisals.

I joined the Trent Institute in 1998 as a health economist. This was the start of a long association with organisations providing health economics advice and support to local researchers. These include:

  • Trent Research Design Support Unit (RDSU) at Leicester
  • Links with Southampton RDSU
  • South Central RDS
  • East of England RDS

I am currently involved in a number of research projects:

Raman spectral imaging for automated Mohs Micrographic surgery of high-risk Basal Cell Carcinoma. Funded by NIHR I4I programme.

Innovative gel aid for administering tablets to stroke and other dysphagic patients. Funded by MRC

The H.E.A.L.T.H. Project: Help Enabling active Lifestyles Toward Health in young people with depression. Funded by NIHR RfPB.
