  • Benefit valuation for health and safety, preference elicitation and utility assessment.
  • Willingness to pay and relative valuation techniques to aid priority setting.
  • Methodological issues surrounding QALYs- including whether QALYs should be weighted according to who gets them.

Prior to undertaking my first degree, I worked as a physiological measurement technician in the NHS for a number of years.

Key Research Interests

  • Angela was one of the partners  in EurovaQ. EuroVaQ was funded by the European Commission and is a collaboration of researchers from 10 European countries, the main aims being to develop more robust methods to determine the monetary value of a QALY based on surveys of the general public.  Almost 40,000 completed interviews were achieved and work on the data set continues.  Details of the questionnaires developed and the full report is available on the EurovaQ web-site:  http://research.ncl.ac.uk/eurovaq/

  • A collaborative bid has gone into the MRC methodology programme involving a methodological study of the use of discrete choice experiments  in measuring public preferences over the funding of orphan drugs.  
  • Research into the use of capability measures – and the estimation of patient costs- in addiction and supervised consumption- is ongoing in collaboration with colleagues at UEA and elsewhere in the UK.
