Career summary

I qualified from Sheffield Medical School in 1981 and trained both in general medicine and general practice. In 1997 I became clinical governance lead for Great Yarmouth PCT and developed a special interest in both the quality and costs of primary care provision. I was appointed honorary senior lecturer in primary care for the UEA School of Medicine, Health Policy and Practice in 2001, where I was involved in establishing the primary care teaching. I was appointed as GPwSI in clinical education for Gt Yarmouth and Waveney teaching PCT in 2004. Latterly I have increased my academic interests and have been a clinical lecturer in general practice since 2010.

Key Research Interests

My research interests include costs and quality in UK primary care. My MD examined the potential health gain of the GMS contract for UK primary care, including the alignment of incentives, effect of exception reporting on potential health gain, and the relationship between the quality and costs of prescribing.  I am currently active in safety of prescribing research.
