Children will get the chance to make a thermometer and see their own DNA at events organised by the University of East Anglia to celebrate National Science Week in March.
Staff and students from UEA’s School of Biological Sciences will be at Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery on March 16 running exciting scientific activities for the whole family on the theme of ‘Inventors , Inventions and Discoveries’.
They will explore whether a cup of coffee can make a person faster, how DNA can be used to identify people, and what an optical illusion is.
Children also will have the opportunity to look at cells in their own body, try their hand at stargazing and take away their own water-drop microscope kit.
This is followed by another fun-packed event at City of Norwich School on March 23, where attendees will also learn about the fun experiments you can do with dry ice and make their own balloon car to compete in a race.
UEA lecturer Dr Kay Yeoman said: “These events are a great opportunity for children to learn about people, both past and present, who have made real contributions to science, as well as having a go at their own experiments” ”
The event at Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery is on March 16, from 10am-4pm, while the event at City of Norwich School is on March 23 from 10am – 3.30pm in the Skinner Centre.
