The University of East Anglia has received £24,000 from a local trust for brand new scholarships aimed at students living in Norfolk.
The donation has come from The John Jarrold Trust, which was set up by the Norwich firm in 1965 to support charitable purposes.
Trustee Caroline Jarrold said: “The trust is keen to provide scholarships for UEA students as it recognises the vibrancy they bring to the Norwich area and wanted to support the university in developing its national and international reputation.
“The John Jarrold Trust has had a long association with the UEA, dating back to supporting the initial fundraising programme to enable it to be built. The trustees are pleased to be able to support local students to study within the world class School of Environmental Sciences as a celebration of UEA’s 50th Anniversary.”
Head of UEA’s School of Environmental Sciences Prof Julian Andrews said: “We are delighted to receive these new scholarships to assist our students, especially as they are aimed at those who will benefit from studying at their local university.”
The scholarships will be awarded to two lucky students, each year, for the next four years and each will receive £1,000 per year for three years as a reduction in tuition fees.
To be eligible, applicants will need to be enrolled onto certain undergraduate courses in environmental sciences at UEA, be resident in Norfolk and pay tuition fees at the Home/EU rate.
For an application pack and further details on the specific courses these scholarships email Sarah Sheldrake, UEA stewardship officer, at s.sheldrake@uea.ac.uk. The closing date for scholarship applications is Sunday, March 31.
