Record numbers expected for University of East Anglia Open Day

Wed, 29 Sep 2010

The University of East Anglia is expecting a record turn out for its Open Day on Saturday, October 2.

Around 6,000 people have pre-registered for the university’s Autumn Open Day, building on the success of its two summer Open Days.

The event will give interested students, their parents and teachers from across the UK, the chance to explore the university’s facilities, meet current students and staff, learn more about the range of courses on offer, and have their questions on higher education answered.

More than 150 current students will be present to give campus tours, direct visitors, answer questions and share their experiences of studying at the University of East Anglia.

There will also be opportunities to visit the academic departments, observe teaching facilities and view a variety of student accommodation including new en-suite residences.

Prospective students will also be able to see the university’s new Thomas Paine Study Centre and the newly refurbished library.

Suzy Gook, head of Marketing and Admissions Services, said: “Following the success of our July Open Day we are expecting an unprecedented number of visitors on October 2 with registrations up by 50 per cent.

"With many students about to start completing their UCAS application, we are looking forward to showing them what fantastic facilities and wide ranging courses the University of East Anglia can offer.”

The event comes during the university’s Live Learn campaign, which involves UEA students promoting life as a student at the university.

High volumes of traffic are expected on the day on the B1108 Watton Road from the A47 junction to the university as well as the immediate areas around the campus such as Bluebell Road, Earlham Road and the Five Ways Roundabout.

Parking spaces have been made available at the city's Costessey Park and Ride (A47) and visitors are advised to use a free coach link to the university. Click here for a location map. Visitors wishing to visit the School of Nursing and Midwifery should park on the Institute of Food Research car park.  Directions can be found on this map. Details of how to reach the campus by public transport are included in the Open Day programme on pages 10 & 11.

Further parking and travel information is available here.

The UEA Open Day will take place on Saturday, October 2, from 9am until 3pm. For further information and a full programme, visit www.uea.ac.uk/livelearn.
