Undergraduate Students
The Assistant Registrar (Undergraduate Students) is Claudia Gray supported by Senior Administrator Paul Vazquez and by Administrative Assistant Wendy Jane Chalfont.
Undergraduate provision at the University is offered through twenty-three Schools (which are grouped into four faculties) and is diverse in the range of subjects offered. Qualifications include Certificates and Diplomas in Higher Education, Bachelors degrees, Integrated Masters degrees, Graduate Diplomas and the Postgraduate Certificate in Education. The Assistant Registrar provides support to the Director of Taught Programmes, the Taught Programmes Policy Group of the Learning and Teaching Committee and working groups. She advises on the following:
- undergraduate regulations and instructions to examiners;
- guidance on good practice for working with the Common Course Structure (CCS) and other regulatory systems (e.g. those operating in the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the School of Medicine, Health Policy and Practice);
- preparation of the CCS Almanac
- concessions against the University's regulations;
- application of, and adherence to University policies and procedures (e.g. APL/APEL) in relation to undergraduate students as well as active development of new procedures;
- appointment of Boards of Examiners and of External Examiners and External Examiners' reports;
- development/project work;
- UEA and QAA Codes of Practice;
- undergraduate academic appeals and academic complaints;
- the Senate's disciplinary procedures in respect of academic progress;
- professional misconduct and unsuitability cases;
- provision of, and monitoring of management information relevant to learning and teaching.
The Assistant Registrar (Undergraduate Students) also assists with annual update of undergraduate course catalogues and programme specifications.
Graduate Students
The Assistant Registrar (Graduate Students) for taught students is Joanne Ashman. She is supported by Administrator Ivan Winser and Administrative Assistant Clare Thornett.
Postgraduate provision at the University includes taught courses leading to Postgraduate Certificates and Diplomas, Masters qualifications, research programmes leading to Master of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy and other research-based qualifications across a range of subjects. The Assistant Registrars provide support to the Director of Taught Programmes and the Director of Postgraduate Research Programmes as appropriate, the Taught Programmes Policy Group, the Graduate Studies Policy Group and a number of working groups. They provide advice on the following:
- regulations for taught and research programmes and instructions to examiners;
- guidance on good practice including application of the Code of Practice for Assuring the Quality of Research Degrees
- concessions against the University's regulations
- application of and adherance to University policies and procedures (e.g. APL/APEL) in relation to graduate students and active development of new procedures;
- UEA and QAA Codes of Practice;
- policy relating to Postgraduate Research Studentships (including those provided by UEA; the Arts and Humanities Research Council; Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council; Economic and Social Research Council; and Natural Environment Research Council);
- appointment of Boards of Examiners (Postgraduate Taught)
- appointment of external examiners for taught and research postgraduate provision and their reports;
- academic appeals and academic complaints
- provision of, and monitoring of management information relevant to learning and teaching.
